Well, off to New Zealand in a few hours.
The spirit of Austraia needs to live on inside me for a lot longer though. There's an amazing feeling here that needs some replicating elsewhere. It's one of the first English speaking first world countries i've spent any time in so comparing developed world with developed world, the differences seem much easier to spot. The general up-beat attitude....always a warm welcome...making time for people..... smiling light-heartedness.....and a love of the outdoors. I believe all created with the help of.... massive amounts of fresh fruit and veggies...... home grown everything... a deep rooted passion and active respect for the environment....and sunshine (might have to forget the last one in England!) it really does all make a huge difference.... as does the very cold lager on one of these very hot days.
That said there's a scary token element to the aboriginal world even though it is woven into all public expressions... there's also a massive racism issue that slapped me in the face when off the beaten track a little.... the environment is a selling point because 1. many of the buildings are generally reminiscent of those cleanly graphically designed images of suburban anywheredom and 2. the water is evaporating faster than it can be used. There's always a flip side.... yes guys even in weymouth! (hhmmm!)... oh and a severe lack of ozone.
I guess we all have a completed table covering pros and cons of natural and physical features....no? well hey i always did love geography field trips!
They even have groovy little balls that bounce on water. Have you seen them? (don't tell anyone. it's my new niche!)
So Australia is a great place
...and now i'm springing off it with warm and enthusiastic friendliness and a renewed fever for the planet....god how annoying!
