Off to the hills

Arrived safely in Kathmandu 4 days ago,
Have been wandering the temples and stupas around Durbar Square, munching on steaming street food and peeping into the beautifully carved yet tiny doorways that hide the secrets of the city.

Went to meet Dave fresh from chilly Bristol last night. So exiting to see a familiar face! He wasn't suprised to be greeted with the garland of marigolds normally saved for temple offerings in reminiscence of the same meeting 9 years ago when kathryn and I met Mark, Barry, Dave and Alan in the same place. We happily consumed many beers and Tibetan Momos as we began to plan our long walk into the mountains.

So tomorrow morning we leave for the hills, beginning with the lush green and farmed lowlands. Many steps and many villages await. Carrying our own packs stuffed with jumpers we are hoping to complete the Annapurna circuit, a 16-21 day trek involving a pass over 5000 metres!! Apparantly it's the closest you can get to climbing a mountain without climbing a mountain. If we don't get altitude sickness, get snowed over or drink from contaminated water sources we should hopefully return to Kathmandu for the 24th December where the aim is we'll pamper ourselves in a luxury hotel for a fine Christmas.

we'll see. if not we'll be sure to be celebrating half way down a mountain!
Both very excited having planned as much as we can.

obviously won't be in contact for a while

Big love and fresh sunny skies for the festive season
