morning glory

Wow it's so sunny in England. I'm filled with the joys of spring.... that being the mini eggs my Mum saved me from Easter....Aren't Mum's just great!

Was deliriously tired in a spaced out all night party way last night. Waves of alertness followed munchies and gin. It's great to be back!!

Am thinking the blog should stay open, in a vain effort to keep myself active whilst remaining decidedly blonde. Am available for jobs, courses and parties.

England looks so beautiful.... are my spectacles still covered in wine?

air con and wine

singapore airport. 10.30pm.
free internet being lapped up as i await my flight call. (That's the first call not the personal one- i hope!)

Spent the last 48 hours with Sam's Auntie and Uncle in Singapore, being treated to luxury things whilst trying to recover my rucksack. yes...The said rucksack was miraculously not there when i got off the bus yesterday to take my worldly possesions through immigration on entering singapore. So, leaving angry and lost I continued my journey to the never-before-met relatives of Sam. Amazingly, by the time i'd arrived at the house, the bag had been found. curious. very curious. Spent my sightseeing day of Singapore travelling back to Malaysia to collect said rucksack and proceed to inform tiny office man that i was emptying my bag to look for possible drugs that could have been smuggled into my bag during it's time out of my sight. All clean. Bag safe.

have given up all hope of punctuation as i'm too full to move and wine has blurred my edges. have been filled with delights.

now a plane to catch

Has anyone invented mint milk yet?

Am wildly trying to invent a job for myself. Obviously one that requires a bare minimum of effort for maximum return. In the process i've only developed the cold virus and a fashion for teenage style acne. And who said women glow. They sweat OK.

Have just returned from my beach break, doing nothing but reading on the beach and sitting in a hammock. It's a hard life i know. Now chilling in Kuala Lumpur with old buddies Dave and Emily and their two fab kids. Lunched on scrumptious banana leaf curry which helped remove the long awaited hang over.

Only 3 days left.

on the tiles

Well, these cyber meetings really are diminishing; readying for real contact soon.

Can't believe I've been in New Zealand for 10 weeks. There's still so much to see and do. It would seem however that i have in fact seen and done a multitude of wonderous things, most recently building sculptures in the most incredible garden i've ever seen. Working with artist Josie Martin in her huge Akaroan house of fun and frivolity. I've been sleeping in a double bed boat sumptuously topped with feather duvets and bowers. Eating fresh quinces for breakfast and wowing at the colours and textures of the outside world created with a vibrancy using the power of nature and thousands of broken tiles. Have been learning the art of sculpting the human form, layering concrete onto metal and wire, guided in the art of aligning such newly formed solidities as shoulders, breasts and the like. Harder than you may imagine without a few decades of sculpture behind you! Concrete not a girls best friend when it comes to the delicate soft hands (the ones i never had anyway). what do they put in that stuff? My hands have peeled off completely. Is it lime? Where's the mild green fairy when you need it?

Looking forward to a week in Malaysia on my way home.

And then some decent marmite of course!

The Giant's House

Josie Mosaic

Am going to the Giant's house to work with a mosaic sculptor for a week. Parisian circus music whafts around the hoticultural paradise as mosaic creations breathe life into those who pass by. Am really very excited and have redesigned Mum's garden as well as Weymouth parklife and beyond.

I love Mosaics. Have been collecting photo's of them all over my travels so I think it nicely apt that i can get my hands dirty before bounding homeward.

I love dirty hands too

No longer Doubtful

Treated ourselves to an overnight cruise on this reflective boat of plenty in the incredible Doubtful sound. (cook was doubtful he'd be able to get out if he sailed in) Kayaks, many coursed dinner, wine (s) and an amazing peaceful journey through one of the many fiords of the south. so green, so big and (very rare but great for us) so sunny.

could tell you amazing things about it, but you know it would only make you jealous, and i wouldn't want to do that.

Hope England's warming up. I'm nearly ready for it.

cold cyber space turkey

Morning
Am in no doubt i am going through a process of cold turkey as i ween myself off the box between my eyes. Am keeping so busy these days there's just no time for those that were once such a lifeline and daily smile support!

we've finished our week in the Abel Tasman National Park. The kayaking and tramping complete. The seals sung to (Ce'seal'ia by Simon and Garfunkul my fave!) The beach horse riding dug out muscles I swore never existed (they still exist in every step 4 days later!)

now south
time up again

We found the wild animals too

Them pesky sand flies
Originally uploaded by box fish
Drove across to the west coast, following the sun. Tramped the first day up the Heaphy trek, a truly stunning coastal day shaded by Nikau palms and massive ferns. White and pink beaches with tumbling boulders protect us from the wild sea that crashed about beside us. We even saw a kiwi which is amazing as they're nocturnal and rarely glimsed. We all felt very lucky. Lucky until we realised why noone lives around this lush beachy coastline. Sandflies... tiny harmless looking midges with a bite as itchy as anything. Terrorising anything that stops to breathe in the same spot for more than a few seconds. We picked up our pace and completed the walk in good time!

onwards and upwards now. To Nelson to book some kayaking and wild adventures.

only a few weeks left until i return. Any jobs available?

We certainly found the big hills we were searching for. Thought an 8 hour tramp up a 1800m mountain would be a good one to start with!! The thighs of Nepal spring to mind. Walked through the most beautiful beech forests filled with moss and magic whispers. The forest turned to scrub and scree and all sorts of alpine flora sprung out from under our feet. Amazing views but i guess you knew that.

Wining and dining

So the next chapter begins. Picked up brother Si and his girlfriend Kathryn from Christchurch last week... wow is it really a week. Have obviously lost my need to contact anyone for friendship support since their arrival!!

Spent at least 24hours christening the camper in the rain which they brought with over with them! Then set off in search of big hills and wild animals.

Found these huge rocks looking like a stage set as we drove to Arthurs Pass around the side of vast vacant riverbeds and high naked ski slopes. really cool.

Camping out in secret locations (they're everywhere), buying the cheapest, freshest veggies from roadside stalls (everything seems to be in season right now especially avocado and kiwi) , searching for treasure on the beaches (found my first Paua shell this morning), tramping up volcanoes (in the mist and rain) and bonding (over a few glasses of wine) with a camper van called Camilla!

Oh did I not mention the food?

cornish pasties
Originally uploaded by box fish
I managed successfully to land myself in a home of homes. Wonderful family of wonderful nature and generousity with a great love of baking!! I indulged in a little feta cheese making which had to be done with all that fresh creamy milk on tap every morning and afternoon and also helped out with a few other bits. I learnt a long time ago that baking means eating so of course was more than happy when a cornish pasty hand was needed........... oh and a biscuit hand... and hands for other sticky sugary delights. Really chuffed i can now make cornish pasties, even if i did have to travel half way around the world to find out how!

nurtured freshly hatched chicks, slid gracefully off a horse as it's saddle did a spin, thrashed thistles, played sing star and smiled a lot. Never stopped going on about the green rolling hills which still continue to take my breath away every day.

night glow

Kayaking glow worms
Originally uploaded by box fish
We paddled off to a secret location upstream. Phil (professional cowman), his lovely daughters, my 2 wwoofing pals and me. We indulged in a twighlight campfire topped off with marshmallows (now there's somthing that needs to come out more often) and then slipped back into our Kayaks and began to drift downstream. The night sky filled with bright stars and the channel pulled us on as the canyon narrowed and the glow worms came into view one by one. They looked like dinky street lights for mini creatures, all scattered up both sides of the steep river bank. I lost track of where the glow worms ended and the stars began. Absolutely awesome.

'til the cows come home...

Learnt how to attach sucking cups to the largest nipples i've ever seen without getting shat on from a great height... absolutely brilliant. I'm sure the novelty would wear off if i had to get up at 5 o clock every day and milk 150 cows but to have a go for a few days at a leisurely 4pm was great. Never realised quite how amusing cows are, following the leader, plodding and eating all day (no comments please!)
